It was raining again. I most live in the fucking Settle of the Rust belt. I had spoken with Billy earlier in the evening by phone. She was agitated. She wanted me to come visit on Saturday, two days away. Three hours later I got a call from Billy's mother. Billy and her roommate had check themselves out of rehab and where picked up by a friend.
We feared the worst. Billy was going to score heroin. I was mad. Through conversations with her and her mom I had learned that Billy had indeed hit rock bottom. She had overdosed on Seriquel. She nearly died, for days she was delirious. She had sold her home computer, the sound system from her car, all for drugs. She weight 78 pounds when she entered the hospital-- an anorexics wet dream. Now she was leaving rehab.
I was on the phone with a friend discuss the situation and how lost I felt when someone knocked on the door. Billy was standing there bag in tow. I drew here in close. I was happy to see her, it was the first time in weeks but I was confused and worried. She was clean with a story for why she need to be out of rehab and her room mate was with her.
So 9:30 at night not one, but two ex strippers in there early twenties straight from rehab have come to stay here for a time as yet undetermined. I am official running a drug halfway house for ex-strippers.
Billy IS looking better. I am in lock step with her mom as much as I can be. I am making sure she continues with meetings and therapy.
Evie, we shall call the other girl is still getting sick from her suboxone. Her insurance was done. She had to leave rehab and did not have a safe place to go. She was working a regular job and going to college before starting to use heroin to control pain from an injury to her shoulder.
And I thought 2012 was going to be boring...
Jesus! How bad does your shoulder have to hurt to resort to heroin?? My shoulder is all jacked up, but I control it with Aleve! Well, hope Billy continues with meetings and therapy, sucks that she didn't stay the full 30, but maybe she can do good staying with you and continuing treatment.
ReplyDeleteI wish my house was full of male strippers for new years... Well, straight male strippers.
This is bad news. Not only for them, but for you. They need to be in rehab.
ReplyDeleteOh..its never boring..not with you at the helm.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful 2012.
In my story..the strippers would be healthy and of sound mind and maybe it would be more of a French story, you know French words as in a threesome(You'd be Taylor Hitch, Billy would be Minka Kelly and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley would come to visit)..anyway, you'd help them all get back on track..maybe.
Bath, I worry about you. Sending you lots of love and strength.
ReplyDeleteDanielle- It often starts with something simple like that, for Billy it was a broken collar bone. She IS doing well here.
ReplyDeleteklynne- Evie's insurance was up she would have been leaving the next day. Billy did leave early but she is into her fourth week clean and all signs are good.
Ellie- you are sweet but in the real world things are not so clean cut, there is a lot of pain in between but sometimes the heroes of the tale do win.
Sarah- Thank you, but I think the god of fools is looking out for me too. Things are okay.
